Three NPC students revive the love of theatre  and film in Winslow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Two NPC <span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Film and Digital Video (FDV)<\/span> students made major contributions to a popular new community arts event in Winslow last January. Thanks in large part to their efforts, the 2019 Winslow Cinema Festival drew more than 300 attendees in its debut! NPC student\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Larrilynn Oso<\/span> created and co-chaired the festival\u2019s organizing committee along with Roberta Cano, the\u00a0Community Service Coordinator for the City of Winslow.\u00a0Oso also served as producer for a promotional documentary film created by NPC Film &amp; Digital Video students\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Jackson Kittrell <\/span>and <span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Anthony Marrietta.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Oso says the Winslow Theater is a special place in the<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">community, and it deserved to have its story told. \u201cThe<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">film is really well done, and everything I was looking for<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">in the storytelling aspect of the project found a way into<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">the scenes and dialogue. The experience I had in creat-ing, planning and seeing my dream of a film festival become a reality was only further enhanced by building working relationships with local business owners, the City of Winslow, festival volunteers and the FDV students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Community reactions to the festival and the student film were emotional, enthusiastic and drew praise from Mayor Tom McCauley. The popularity of the festival led Oso to also create the Winslow Cinema Society, which will show classic and impactful films throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><a href=\"http:\/\/npc.mycareerfocus.org\/fall-2019-volume-5-issue-1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Marietta.tif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-40 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/npc.mycareerfocus.org\/fall-2019-volume-5-issue-1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Marietta.tif\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a>Marrietta <i>(left, top)<\/i> and Kittrell <i>(left, bottom)\u00a0<\/i>spent six days shooting the scenes and another<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">two weeks in editing the film \u201c#SupportYour-<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">LocalTheater.\u201d <i>(You can see the film at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npc.edu\/film-digital-video\">www.npc.edu\/film-digital-video<\/a>.)<\/i> Kittrell said Mar<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">rietta did a wonderful job on the cinematography and editing for the film, which begins with a nostalgic look back at yesteryear in Winslow and concludes with interviews of the owners of the Winslow Theater, Debbie and Tommy Martinez, and local residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/npc.mycareerfocus.org\/fall-2019-volume-5-issue-1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Kittrell.tif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/npc.mycareerfocus.org\/fall-2019-volume-5-issue-1\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/Kittrell.tif\" alt=\"\" width=\"107\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Marrietta, a FDV major from Holbrook, has previously\u00a0assisted in video production for the NPC play \u201cMachinal.\u201d\u00a0He interned in the Gila River Indian Community\u2019s media<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">department, where he hopes to work full-time after graduating from NPC this spring. Marrietta says, \u201cNPC\u00a0provided me with a great education at an affordable cos<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Kittrell provided vision for the film, set up work and interview schedules and collaborated with Oso and Marrietta on the conceptualization of the content. He began<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">acting in and directing theatre at Blue Ridge High School,<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">which earned him an NPC Performing Arts Scholarship.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">At NPC, he has played the role of Henry Higgins in \u201cMy<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Fair Lady\u201d and acted in \u201cThe Government Inspector.\u201d He<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">acted in and produced a video shown in the presentation<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">of \u201c9 to 5.\u201d Kittrell says, \u201cFilm is my number one love in<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">this world, and the fact that NPC had a program for it<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">was beyond enticing.\u201d Upon completing his studies at NPC<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">this spring, Kittrell plans to move to New York City to pursue a career as an actor, screenwriter and director.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">All three students said they enjoyed collaborating as a team on the Winslow Theater project and appreciated the support of their instructor, <span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Mark Ford<\/span>. They said he offered excellent creative input, encouragement <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">and the freedom to test their ideas. Oso said Ford has been an extraordinary influence on her creativity skills and very supportive of her endeavors in and out of <\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">the classroom.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">For Oso, the film festival was the capstone of several years of working toward her associate degree at NPC.<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">This fall, she will transfer to Northern Arizona University to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology. She says NPC instructors \u201chave been a blessing in my life<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">by giving me so many different perspectives and the foundation for a successful transition to the next chapter<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">of my life.
