Earning your high school equivalency diploma adds 33 percent more money\u00a0to your lifetime earnings! In just one year, that adds up to about $10,000 more\u00a0in income. That’s 10 months or more of rent payments or a reliable used car. It’s a goal well worth achieving.<\/span><\/p>\n

NPC can help you achieve that goal by helping you to prepare for the General Education Diploma (GED\u00ae<\/sup>) and expand your\u00a0career opportunities! For the last couple\u00a0years, NPC’s GED pass rate for students\u00a0who took our College & Career Preparation<\/span> (CCP) classes is right at 80 percent!\u00a0Here\u2019s how we can help you achieve that.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our CCP program offers a free<\/i> orienta<\/span>tion class to help you chart your course for<\/span>\u00a0success. In the one-day class, you\u2019ll gain valuable information on how to set goals and succeed, as well as assess your cur-rent skill level to see if you are ready to<\/span>\u00a0pass the GED test. Most students discover<\/span>\u00a0that they need to brush up on their skills and refresh their knowledge. That\u2019s okay, NPC is ready to help you with that and ensure you reach your goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

NPC\u2019s preparation course list includes reading and writing, mathematics, English, high school equivalency prepara<\/span>tion and workforce readiness skills. You<\/span>\u00a0can take the preparation classes at your<\/span>\u00a0own pace, and, depending on your strengths, you may only need to take<\/span>\u00a0some of the courses. Financial assistance is available for these courses, and more than 90 percent of students receive scholarships! NPC even cuts the tuition rate in half for CCP courses to ensure students succeed. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gail Campbell<\/span>, associate dean of<\/span>\u00a0Education and College & Career Prepar-ation at NPC, oversees adult education at NPC. \u201cThe GED is the test itself and<\/span>\u00a0our courses stand aside from that. We don’t<\/span>\u00a0teach the test; we teach basic academic skills so people can pass the test. Our courses run the gamut from literacy classes to what can be compared to a grade-12 academic level,\u201d she explains.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur students are people who may have tried to complete high school and were unsuccessful,\u201d Campbell continues. \u201cWe have a number of students for whom \u2018life happens\u2019 and who now want to earn their high school equivalency diploma. We<\/span>\u00a0even have senior citizens who didn’t complete high school, and to motivate their children and grandchildren to earn their<\/span>\u00a0high school equivalency, they take the classes at NPC with them. It\u2019s a very invit<\/span>ing and supportive group. We have courses<\/span>\u00a0to help students start from scratch or fill <\/span>in the gaps. Some have had no formal edu<\/span>cation, while others were a year or two away from high school graduation. If you\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0middle-aged or older and don\u2019t have the computer skills necessary for the modern work place \u2026 no need to fear! We\u2019ll turn you into a computer-literate person.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kathleen Bentley<\/span>, adult education special sites coordinator at NPC, teaches the orientation course at all nine NPC campus locations. She also teaches classes<\/span>\u00a0in reading and writing and instructs an online class for people in remote areas. Bentley says, \u201cNPC works with people in<\/span>\u00a0a wide age spectrum, but most are in their<\/span>\u00a020s and trying to raise a family. They realize minimum wage doesn’t cut it, and<\/span>\u00a0now they want to finish what they started<\/span>\u00a0and earn a diploma. We can customize our classes and make it work for almost every student.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Donna Krieser<\/span> is an NPC academic adviser and the college’s GED chief exam<\/span>iner, overseeing administration of the tests<\/span>\u00a0offered at both the Show Low and Holbrook<\/span>\u00a0campuses. She says that, to be eligible for<\/span>\u00a0GED testing at NPC, a person must be 16<\/span>\u00a0or older and may not<\/i> be currently enrolled<\/span>
\nin high school. Krieser also notes that Ari<\/span>zona has a second option for students who<\/span>\u00a0never earned their high school diploma. It\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0called the College Credit Pathway. It is<\/span>\u00a0open to Arizona residents 16 or older seek<\/span>ing their GED. It requires completion of 25 100-level college credits (with grades of C or better) and passing the Arizona Civics Test. \u201cNPC can help you figure out what option will work best for you.
