npc_bowlsLast year, NPC held its first annual Empty Bowls community service project, which raised $2,040 for the Love Kitchen charity in Pinetop. Magda Gluszek, NPC art instructor and event coordinator (pictured far left), says, “The Empty Bowls project is part of NPC’s ongoing commitment to community service. It is very important for NPC to give back to our communities through service projects like this.”

The 2015 Empty Bowls project provided more than 1,000 nutritious meals for the homeless and hungry at the Love Kitchen. This year NPC hopes to provide even more, in proudly serving its communities. Donations were taken at the NPC fundraising event held on November 18, 2016, at the Show Low campus.

Lynn Lewis, director of the Love Kitchen, appreciates NPC’s support. “I am so excited that NPC is engaging with us in our cause,” she says. “Events like this are bringing the community together and educating people on the food insecurity problem. Food insecurity is defined as lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. Many aren’t aware that, here in northeastern Arizona, 4 in 10 persons are food insecure. The Empty Bowls project heightens awareness among donors, who consume a meager meal: a bowl of soup and a portion of bread.”

NPC plans to continue its support of this important community project.
