NPC_FBIFederal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Recruiter Kevin Zwick, with the Phoenix Office, explained career opportunities and the Bureau’s hiring procedure to students in Northland Pioneer College’s computer networking and maintenance class during an NPC Career Services presentation earlier this spring. Only 1,300 of the Bureau’s 36,000 employees are classified as “special agents.” The rest are specialists in a variety of fields, including computer science and accounting, with at least a bachelor’s degree in their field.

“Those are some of our highest demand positions,” explained Zwick. He also explained the Bureau’s paid internship program for undergraduate students. “It gets you in the door and you’re working on ‘live’ cases, but we generally get 1,000 applicants for 200 positions.” All FBI employees, including interns, must pass security and financial back-ground checks and a vigorous physical fitness test. His advice, while aimed at FBI recruits, can be applied to any interview situation: keep your criminal and financial records clean; dress appropriately for the position you are seeking; ask the right questions: what an average day would be like – not, how much the position pays; and have your education and work experience match.
