NPC English professor Jennifer Witt started an informal book club where she would encourage her colleagues and students to read a book together, then share how the author influenced their thoughts and actions.

When Witt passed away suddenly just before the start of the fall semester, her friends and colleagues decided to create a Little Free Library to perpetuate her love for books. Faculty Association President Pat Lopez and Witt’s husband Ryan Rademacher worked with Construction program chair Ken Wilk to design and build the memorial, whose design incorporates elephants. As Lopez noted during the dedication of the little library, “Elephants are known for having long memories: they remember things really well, like who their friends and relatives are. They were Jen’s favorite animal. It’s fitting that they should be pictured on the library because they will kindle warm memories of our departed friend.” The Little Free Library is located by the west entrance of the Aspen Center on the Show Low campus. Anyone can use the library, bringing one or more books to share, and taking others to read.
